Respiratory Protection, according to Safety and Health Magazine, is the 5th most cited OSHA violation. This standard states that "In any workplace when respirators are necessary to protect the health of the employees or whenever respirators are required by the employer, the employer shall establish and implement a Respiratory Protection Program." Occupational Health Screens is here to assist you in developing your own program through the following.
Pulmonary Function Testing
(PFT) measures lung function, specifically the amount and speed of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. PFT’s are helpful in assessing conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD. The PFT results are used by the Pulmonologist to clear the employee to wear the required respirator.
Respirator Medical Clearance
The Medical Clearance consists of a brief noninvasive physical by medical professionals, and the completion of a questionnaire covering the employees smoking, medical history, and medications. After reviewing the questionnaire and the PFT results, the Pulmonologist then declares the employee cleared to wear the required respirator.
Respiratory Fit Testing & Training
A Qualitative Respirator Fit Test and training on the use of the respirator is performed on site following the PFT. The training covers how to wear, clean, store, and maintain the required respirator.
